Business Process Reengineering and Feasibility Studies

Business Process Reengineering (BPR)

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is a management approach used as a means for increasing efficiency and effectiveness of informal and formal business processes.  RNR Consulting worked on engagements with clients in the housing, transit, other public sector agencies, and manufacturing examining and conducting critical analysis and re-design of processes to achieve improvements in performance measures.  RNR Consulting has utilized BPR approaches for assessing Human Resources/Payroll Departments, Inventory Management, Information Technology Departments, Finance Departments, Maintenance Departments including Work Order processes, and Operations Departments. The following steps highlight our BPR methodology and approach:

  1. Define the purpose and goal
  2. Define the scope of the engagement
  3. Identify client specific requirements
  4. Document “as-is” processes
  5. Perform a gap analysis and a business case for change
  6. Document Best Practices
  7. Define training requirements
  8. Document strategies and “to-be” processes
  9. Develop a qualitative and quantitative cost-benefit analysis
  10. Define performance measure
  11. Implement process improvements
  12. Measure performance results

Feasibility Studies

RNR Consulting performed Feasibility Studies for many clients. A feasibility study is the first phase of an IT implementation project and assists the agency in the selection of a new Information System. The purpose of this first phase is to determine the needs for a system and to create the requirements for a new system to be included in an RFP.

The scope of the Feasibility Study is to identify and document client’s business needs relative to the maintenance of related information and to complete related processes.  RNR Consulting identifies and documents the business needs of our clients for each required functional area. We meet with key business process owners to understand their expectations for a future system. Our project teams conduct workshops focused on the system architecture and identify necessary integrations between the new system and existing systems. As part of the workshops activities, we create process maps to document the “As-Is” and “To-Be” processes, while simultaneously identifying the requirements definitions for the system. We also document client’s network infrastructure, which includes areas such as server operating systems, back up solutions, storage environment, and remote connectivity.

Another vital initiative of a feasibility study is conducting internal and external research to identify the resources required by the client to implement and support the new system and related processes. In addition, RNR Consulting compares the current IT processes and capabilities to industry best practices and identifies avenues for improvement. Our management of a feasibility study and utilization of our people, process, and technology methodology, helps us develop courses of actions, which provide an enhanced business process and maximizes the efficiency of the client’s existing resources.
