Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are implemented to improve transportation safety, while enhancing productivity.  The Federal Intelligent Transportation Systems Program categorizes ITS into sixteen types of technology based systems: arterial management; freeway management; transit management; incident management; emergency management; electronic payment; traveler information; crash prevention and safety; roadway operations and maintenance; road weather management; commercial vehicle operations; intermodal freight; collision avoidance system; collision notification system; and driver assistance system.   The National ITS Architecture guides the framework and standards for deploying ITS.

RNR Consulting has completed ITS selections and implementations including developing system specifications and request for proposals.   RNR Consulting works directly with our client and vendors to successfully accomplish the ITS initiatives.  Throughout the ITS implementations we have managed, RNR Consulting has conducted system pilot and final testing, developed acceptance testing procedures, geocoded bus stops, designed canned messages, designed system interfaces, researched and recommended voice and data communication providers and plans, conducted training, etc.

Clients we have successfully completed ITS engagements include: Antelope Valley Transit Authority; Charlotte Area Transit Systems; Northwest Indiana Community Action Corporation; Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority; and Stark Area Regional Transit Authority.
