Inventory Management Assessment

RNR Consulting worked on a project involving a full study of the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources (DWR) Central Warehouse and the inventory practices at all remote DWR facilities. This project was coupled with an analysis of the existing Work Order flow, to provide recommendations for a new process and/or Work Order Management software.

The goal of this study was to analyze the inventory and work order management practices of all DWR warehouses and improve the ability to locate, and create accountability for inventory at remote facilities while ensuring that existing technical resources are being utilized efficiently. Moreover, the assessment involved analyzing the current utilization of the existing IT systems and identifies potential benefits, gaps, and bottlenecks. RNR Consulting also provided recommendations for improvements in the existing inventory systems, and assist DWR in the development of an effective communications plan for coordinating information flow between the DWR facilities and the Central Warehouse. In addition we assisted DWR in establishing a process to improve the decision making capabilities related to inventory allocation and planning.

Summarily, our participation was comprised of data collection and analysis activities, a comprehensive inventory management assessment, development of an effective communication plan and identification of methods for tracking inventory and creating accountability. The project activities included: interviewing and focus groups with key individuals; employee shadowing and job time studies; document shadowing; development of process maps, Evaluation of Inventory Management Systems capabilities, inventory counting, development of Standard Operating Procedures, and Best Practices research.
