Assessment of Public Works Department

RNR Consulting conducted a thorough assessment of the City’s Public Works Department utilizing a people, process, and technology (PPT) framework. The goals of the project were to enable the department to become process-driven rather than people-driven and to evaluate the technological resources used to perform daily functions, while ensuring effective change management throughout the project and the recommendations implementation. RNR Consulting evaluated critical processes, defined current issues facing the department through the use of change management and cultural assessment surveys, conducted benchmarking activities to gauge Faribault’s Public Works Department compared to various Minnesotan cities similar in size, and assessed the physical layout of the managerial office space. RNR Consulting’s results isolated the issues facing the department, presented recommendations, and provided the director with a tool which could be used to more effectively manage the department and serve the community in a more efficient manner.
