RNR Consulting was contracted to refine and enhance the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority’s (PARTA’s) current system specifications for a CAD/AVL system and to assist in vendor contract negotiations. We conducted interviews, focus groups, and document research to refine the system specifications. During the requirements definition phase, current specifications were not as robust and detailed as desired. The project team, in conjunction with the project sponsorship, reorganized and refined these specifications to completely encompass PARTA’s software desires regarding a new CAD/AVL system. The project team then developed a negotiation points’ checklist in order to facilitate future meetings with the chosen software vendor. In addition to the previously mentioned deliverables, RNR Consulting mapped out the complete network and application architecture within PARTA. These documents were included within the final report which was utilized by the software vendor in order to identify implementation requirements and facilitate project completion.
